COVID-19: Two Liverpool areas record sharp rise in infections according to latest figures

Three areas of the Liverpool City Region have seen a rise in COVID-19 cases with two recording a sharp surge, the latest data from the Government shows.
Halton, Wirral and St Helens have all seen a week on week percentage increase in coronavirus infections.

Hide AdAccording to the figures from Public Health England, Halton was the worst hit constituency as COVID-19 cases rose by 37.9% in the seven days leading up to 6 October - 192 more cases than the previous seven days.
Wirral’s percentage change week on week rose by 23.7%, with 208 more cases than the previous week.
St Helens, however, recorded a relatively marginal increase of 3.8%, with 21 more cases.
Infection rates in Knowsley (-14.7%), Sefton ( -13.4%) and Liverpool (-0.5%) all dropped during the same period.

Halton
According to the latest figures released on Monday, 11 October, the number of coronavirus cases in Halton increased by 284 over the weekend.
A total of 19,871 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

Hide AdThe rate of infection in Halton now stands at 15,314 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 12,322.
Wirral
Coronavirus cases in Wirral increased by 558 over the weekend with three more deaths recorded.
A total of 43,009 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.
The rate of infection in Wirral now stands at 13,261 cases per 100,000 people, which is also higher than the England average.

Hide AdThere were also three more coronavirus deaths recorded over the weekend, taking Wirral’s overall tally to 873 people.
St Helens
The number of cases in St Helens increased by 297 over the weekend.
A total of 28,770 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 in the area.
The rate of infection in St Helens now stands at 15,887 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the national average.

The number of cases in Liverpool increased by 599 over the weekend.
A total of 80,562 people had been confirmed as testing positive.
The rate of infection in Liverpool now stands at 16,097 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average.
Sefton
The number of coronavirus cases in Sefton increased by 377 over the weekend.

The rate of infection in Sefton now stands at 15,087 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the national average.
Knowsley
The number of coronavirus cases in Knowsley increased by 208 over the weekend.
A total of 27,716 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.
The rate of infection in Knowsley now stands at 18,180 cases per 100,000 people, also far higher than the England average of 12,322.
