Dead puppies found buried in sand dunes at Merseyside beach

One puppy was found wrapped in kitchen roll.

Six dead puppies have been found in shallow graves in the sand dunes at Crosby Beach. 

The RSPCA said the bodies were been found on two separate dates but at the same spot, with one puppy found on April 17 wrapped in kitchen roll and another five puppies found on May 2. The pups were believed to be around four to five weeks old, and possibly a cross poodle type.

It is not yet known how the puppies died but the bodies were ‘quite decomposed’ and the deaths are being treated as ‘suspicious’.

Inspector Lisa Lupson - who is investigating the incident - said: “We are so grateful to the member of the public for reporting this to us and it must have been so harrowing for them to find the puppies in this way.

“While we do not know what the cause of death may be - the fact that so many were found in these circumstances is suspicious. It is thought they had been buried in shallow graves which had been disturbed.”
