Everton sunk further into the Premier League relegation mire following an abysmal 5-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

They’re firmly in the dogfight at the bottom of the table and next play Wolves on Sunday.
Jamie Carragher gave an in-depth verdict on Everton’s plight in the Sky Sports studio.
Here’s every word on what he had to say.
Carragher on Everton's defensive woes
Everton are an absolute shambles defensively, aren't they?
I mentioned they're a Championship back four at half-time. That might be a little bit harsh on some of the back fours in the Championship.

The only thing about Everton that's a little crumb of comfort is that it could have been worse.
When it went to 5-0, Evertonians at home, certainly at the time, would have been thinking this could be seven or eight.
Carragher on Goodison Park’s importance
The only way this team is going to stay up and what I think will keep them up is Goodison Park.

Hide AdOne of the reasons I think it was right to take Frank Lampard at the time was he was the one candidate the supporters almost bought into and were happy in some way that Frank Lampard was taking charge.
It hasn't been a great start but there's been an energy and atmosphere at Goodison.
You mentioned how many games they have at home, eight.
It is significant because you can't actually see them picking up a point away from home.
The disappointing thing away from home is that, not just for Everton but for any team - it's easy to play at home with the crowd behind you.

When you see teams who're the worse in the league away from home, the first thing that comes to mind is that they're weak, they're soft. That can never be Everton, it can't.
It can be quality and they're not. That back four is Championship level.
But for Everton to be physical, aggressive, making it tough, that's what Everton have always been. Even when they've been at the best or not at the best.

Hide AdFundamentally, this group of players at this football club is so weak now.
The lack of athleticism in this team is frightening. When you look at midfield, Allan can't run, [Donny] van de Beek has come in and can't run, none of the back four can run.
Harry Kane running past Michael Keane for one of the goals. Harry Kane is not a sprint champion, we seen Seamus Coleman two or three teams - I feel for him right now - people are just running off him.
They are weak physically and that's a problem going forward.

Hide AdCarragher on Everton's various problems
I've always believed they'd win them but when I look at their next two home games, Wolves and Newcastle, Everton should be looking at getting four points from that.
I think that's possible in those games. If Everton got one point in those two games, for the first time in my life Everton can go down.
I've always believed, even going back to some of the worst teams I've ever seen in the early 1990s, this team has got a worse record than that.
There were some awful Everton teams in the early 90s, you still never believed Everton would go down.

Hide AdIf the next home games don't go well, I think Everton have got a massive problem.
The reason they have got a massive problem, forget just this season, that club as a whole - what's going on with [Alisher] Usmanov behind the scenes, what's going on with the stadium.
They teetered on financial fair play at the start of the season, that's why they couldn't bring players in.
The situation they've got now with the background of the club, the new stadium and Everton going down, you've probably got one of the worse times, as an Everton supporter, of how bad it's been because of these things in the background.
