The spot where a teenager was killed in a horrific road accident has been covered in flowers to mark what would have been his 18th birthday.
Two years ago Mark Purnell died when he was knocked off his moped at the junction of Church Street and Southworth Road in Newton-le-Willows.

He became trapped under the car that hit him - a black Toyota Avensis - and was rushed to Warrington Gener
al Hospital where he died from his injuries.

His birthday would have been on Saturday (September 27).

Since his tragic death, on November 2, 2006, his devastated family and friends have paid tribute to a 'fantastic boy' who 'lit up so many lives'.

His dad, Mark, of Hamilton Road, Garswood, said: "Obviously we are very proud that our son had such an affect on so many people and they are still thinking about him.

"He meant so much to us, his friends and his girlfriend and he touched so many people. We still miss him so much."

A memorial garden has been set up to remember the Garswood youngster and various events have been arranged in the past two years to pay tribute.

His mum, Ann, said: "Our Mark was a wonderful son and the fact people are still paying tribute just shows that.

"He had only nipped to get some petrol when the car pulled out on him - it still haunts us."

Eric Fry, the driver of the car that hit Mark, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at St Helens Magistrates in June last year. He was fined £1,000 and banned from driving for 12 months.
