Two determined pensioners have succeeded in travelling the length of England using just their free bus passes.
Ella Coventry and Helen Moorhouse have been hurtling round country roads on public transport to complete the 700 mile trip from Berwick-upon-Tweed near the Scottish border to arrive at Land's End in Cornwall on Monday (September 29).
The Eccleston
pair celebrated their success with a cream tea and a scone.
They decided on the two-week gruelling journey in a bid to raise £10,000 for Willowbrook Hospice.
Ella said: "We were over the moon when we saw the end in sight and it was such a beautiful day.
"We reached Land's End and we looked out over the sea. It was a lovely afternoon.
"We have had such fun on the way round and have been collecting donation at various stop offs."
Named Elles Belles, a term which rhymed with the expression Ella's husband John used when she told him about her plans, they have received support from across the country and have even been sent sponsor money from America.
Helen, of Chapel Lane, Eccleston, and Ella, of Pikes Bridge Fold, Eccleston are paying for the entire trip themselves. They wanted to go as far as John O'Groats - but they can't use their bus passes in Scotland. They are now on their way home - this time on the comfort of the train.
Ella said: "The bus service we encountered across England was superb - the majority were on time and everyone has been so positive."
In one bed and breakfast the landlady even went round her punters collecting money for their charity.
There will be a Thanksgiving service on Sunday (October 5) at Our Ladies Portico at 3pm. Everyone is invited to hear the tales of their epic trip.
