St Helens should become a satellite district of a newly created Greater Liverpool - that's the verdict of former Liverpool council boss Mike Storey.
Coun Storey wants to ditch the name Merseyside in favour of the new title based on his hometown.

But the idea - first raised in 2004 to near universial scorn across St Helens - has provoked fury from the town's politicians.

Coun Storey also by called on St Helens Council, among others, to stop promoting its own brand and instead fall in line with the current European Capital of Culture.

There's no way St Helens should become a part of Liverpool - the idea is beyond ridiculous. St Helens is completely different from Liverpool and should be kept as such. I can see what's in it for Liverpool, but what's in it for us? Imagine receiving letters addressed St Helens, Liverpool. It just isn't right.

I can't believe this man is serious! I was born in Lancashire and I still live in Lancashire. We have just celebrated Lancashire Day on 27th Nov.wearing our red roses and drinking the Loyal Toast. I can assure Mr. Storey there is no such place as Merseyside and St Helens will never be anywhere other than Lancashire. Perhaps he would like to join The Friends of Real Lancashire and they will put him right. Mr. Storey you are talking rubbish.

If ever St Helens becomes part of Liverpool or Greater Liverpool, we will move out of it.
I have nothing against Liverpool but we don't want to be classed as part of it. We have our own identity thanks very much.
I lived in Bury when it was changed from Lancashire to Greater Manchester & believe me, no-one wanted that either.
Stop messing up the counties.....if you must find time for idle hands to spend, thinking up counties etc then put them back how they were! Lancashire is where St Helens ought to be & indeed where Liverpool should also be.
Lancashire was and is a county to be proud of & to feel you can identify with. It has history. Where is the history & pride in greater Manchester / Merseyside / Greater Liverpool?

I think Prescot should be chaged back to Prescot Lancashire. When you work with scousers in liverpool they dont want you there, they say get rid of him he's from the outbacks. As for St Helens being called part of liverpool, dont be mugs, stupid idea.
